Les Pierres Jaumâtres & the Toulx watchtower Tower

A visit to Les Pierres Jaumâtres, a 40-minute drive away, is an absolute must during your stay with us. These mysterious granite rock formations are located on top of the mountain near Toulx-Sainte-Croix and are one of the most fascinating natural phenomena in the Creuse. Giant stones, stacked in bizarre shapes, create a magical atmosphere reminiscent of ancient legends and sagas.

From the car park, you can walk up through the forest in fifteen minutes, where you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape in clear weather. You can climb between the rocks or just be quiet and take in the surroundings.

A short drive away, you will find the Tour d’Observation, a stone watchtower in Toulx-Sainte-Croix. Climb the tower for a 360-degree view of the Creuse hills, the Massif Central and, in good weather, even the Puy de Dôme. Also take some time to visit the beautiful church of Saint-Martial. The bell tower is separate from the nave.

Combine your visit to the Pierres Jaumâtres with a short drive (13 minutes) to Château de Boussac, an impressive castle that breathes the rich medieval history of the Creuse. The castle experienced its heyday in the 15th century and later became the place where the world-famous “Lady with the Unicorn” tapestries were rediscovered. Stroll through the atmospheric halls and experience the grandeur of times gone by. This historic castle was once visited by the famous writer George Sand, who found inspiration for her work there. If you want to visit the castle, it is advisable to book in advance.
