Les Fresses
We are Jurjen and Mathilde. In 2020, just before Christmas, we exchanged the hustle and bustle of the Netherlands for the peace and quiet of the French countryside. Looking for freedom, adventure and a place closer to nature and one that others can enjoy as much as we do.
Mathilde’s passion used to be in the hospitality industry, and being a hostess was something she really missed. Jurjen is a real creator: handy, creative, and not afraid of a construction project or two. And that’s how our idea came about: a small-scale glamping with charm, comfort and personal attention.
Vive la France
Our adventure wasn't always a bed of roses (think: a flood of bureaucratic rules, rejected permit applications, collapsing roofs, leaks, budgets that keep evaporating, the battle with the blackberries that mysteriously keep coming back), but it mainly resulted in beautiful memories and a place that makes us happy every day. Four years later, our glamping is really there. We are proud of what we have accomplished.
Les Fresses
The glamping is named after the hamlet where we live: Les Fresses. The name ‘Fresses’ is probably a corruption of the Old French word frêne, which means ‘ash’ (the tree species). There used to be a lot of ash trees in this area – and we still have a few beautiful, old ones on our property. Would you like to know more about the beautiful surroundings and what there is to do?
