Discover Aubusson

A 45-minute drive, via a beautiful route, takes you to Aubusson, a beautiful village located on the edge of the Millevaches Regional Nature Park in Limousin. The town is known worldwide for its magnificent tapestries. In the fourteenth century, a unique technique for making the most beautiful tapestries was developed in Aubusson. In the centuries that followed, the tapestry industry grew more and more, and this special technique is now on the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage List.

In the musée départemental de la tapisserie d’Aubusson you can learn everything about the production and art of tapestry making. The La Maison du Tapissier and the Atelier-musée des Cartons De Tapisserie are also definitely worth a visit. These museums offer an in-depth insight into the rich history and craftsmanship of the tapestry industry in Aubusson.

The town itself is also very beautiful. You can enjoy picturesque streets, charming houses, nice restaurants and certainly important, terraces. A walk through Aubusson feels like a journey back in time, with its historic buildings and cozy atmosphere. Don’t forget to visit the Tour de l’Horloge, a beautiful clock tower that offers a beautiful view over the town. Be careful, it is a tough climb to the top.
