Cycling in the Creuse

Thanks to the location of Glamping Les Fresses in the Creuse, a stone’s throw from the Auvergne and the Puy-de-Dôme, you will discover a surprising variety of cycling routes here. Our area is a true paradise for cycling enthusiasts. Whether you like relaxing rides through the rolling countryside, get sporty on your racing bike or want to go on an adventure with your mountain bike – you will find something for everyone here. The quiet roads, fresh forest air, wide views and the alternation between villages, forests and rivers make cycling here a wonderful experience.

Recreational cycling routes

For those who want to enjoy the landscape in peace and quiet, there are numerous signposted cycling routes, varying in distance and difficulty. Think of quiet country roads through small hamlets, along meadows with Limousin cows, and shady forest paths. Many routes start near Evaux-les-Bains or Chambon-sur-Voueize and are also ideal for advanced cyclists as well as families with children.

Cycling

Cyclists can indulge themselves in the Creuse. The hills are challenging but never overly steep, and the road network is excellently maintained and often surprisingly quiet. Climbs around Evaux les Bains and Aubusson offer beautiful views and a sporting challenge. The region is popular with both local and international cyclists and is regularly part of major tours such as the Tour du Limousin. An added bonus: the temperature often remains pleasant, even in summer.

Mountain biking (VTT)

For those who like rougher trails, there are numerous marked VTT routes (Vélo Tout Terrain). The Creuse offers a varied terrain from steep forest slopes to technical single tracks along streams and rock formations. At the Base VTT network of Guéret and Ahun, among others, you can find routes in various levels of difficulty, from beginners to advanced. In the forests of Chabrières you will even find a specially created MTB park with descents and courses for adrenaline seekers. There are also accessible trails available for children.

Bike rental

There are no possibilities to rent bikes in our immediate vicinity. So either bring your own bike or the first option is at Creuse Oxygène in Guéret (45 min). Make your bike ride extra special with a stop in one of the charming villages, a refreshing dip in a lake, or even a ride to the Puy-de-Dôme where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the volcano range, take a walk to the top or explore the visitor centre.
