Markets
Every Monday morning there is a small market in Évaux-les-Bains. Immediately a good opportunity to take a stroll through the old streets. On other days of the week there are markets in other villages nearby.
Chateaux Villemonteix
The castle is surrounded by green fields and trees, where you can take lovely walks. The extraordinary castle was built in the fifteenth century and is one of the finest examples of medieval architecture in the Creuse. Also hanging are beautiful tapestries from Aubusson.
Aubusson
Aubusson is a beautiful village located on the edge of the Parc Naturel Régional Millevaches and Limousin. The town is known for its tapestries. In the fourteenth century, a technique for making the most beautiful tapestries emerged in Aubusson. In the centuries that followed, the carpet industry grew more and more, and today the technique is on UNESCO’s Intangible World Heritage List. At the musée départemental de la tapisserie d’Aubusson, you can learn all about the production and art of carpet making. Also worth seeing are the La Maison du Tapissier and the Atelier-musée des Cartons De Tapisserie. The town itself is also very beautiful. You can enjoy picturesque streets and nice restaurants.
Brocante
Much of the year there are several brocante markets to visit in our area. Nice to combine with sightseeing near the market. Should you want more we have some tips for interesting brocante addresses.
Puy-de-Dôme
You will board the “Panoramique des Dômes,” an electric rack-and-pinion train that will take you to the top of the Puy-de-Dôme in 15 minutes. At an altitude of 1465 meters, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the most characteristic volcanoes of Auvergne: la Chaîne des Puys, 80 volcanoes that have been sleeping for more than 8,000 years and named a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
In the heart of the Chaîne des Puys is “Vulcania.” In this educational park you can learn all about volcanology.
L`etang des Landes
In Lussat is a beautiful large lake, l’Etang des Landes. It is a bird sanctuary and in a visitor’s building there is a permanent exhibition on what can be seen there.
Pierres Jaumâtres
Also very nice are the Pierres Jaumâtres, huge boulders on a hilltop with a nice climbing park attached.
Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret Les Loups de Chabrières
Loups de Chabrières is a large animal park located near the city of Guéret. The park is located in the forest of Chabrières, where European gray wolves used to live. Several wolf species now live in the animal park, which you can admire when you visit. The park is also home to foxes, wild boars and deer. At the park you can learn all about the animals and there are fun activities. You should also be sure to check out the House of the Wolf. At this museum, you can learn all about wolf behavior and habitat.
